Amory- George Edwin “Big Ed” Carnathan, 69, died Sunday, August 26, 2013 at his residence. Born November 2, 1943 in Sulligent, he was a son of the late Johnnie W. and Neva Mangum Carnathan. He married Lynne Pope in 1982.
Ed attended Hatley High School, was of the Baptist faith, served in the Mississippi National Guard, and retired in 1994 from Vista Chemicals as a master electrician with 25 years of service. A big man with a lot of love, Ed enjoyed being with his family and was a great friend to many people. A man of many talents and a big heart, he was often found helping or giving advice to his friends. He enjoyed yard work and his dogs, Tator Bug and Sissy.
He is survived by his wife, Lynne Pope Carnathan, Amory; children, Keith Edwin Carnathan, Guy, TN , Cassie Pace Hester (Danny), Nettleton and Benjie Barrett, Hatley; sister, Velma Williams (Carl), Smithville; grandchildren, Olivia Dawn Carnathan, Guy, TN, Bo Barrett (Tammy), Wren, Ben Barrett, Jackson, MS, Mari Caitlyne Minga (Mitch), Splunge; great grandchildren, Luke, Colin, and Dakota Barrett; special friends, Steve Turner and Carroll Moffett and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by 2 sisters, Joan Mills and Thelma Foster; 1 brother, Jerry Carnathan.
A Graveside Service honoring Ed’s life will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at Haughton Memorial Park with Bro. Jim Manley officiating. Friends and family are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45pm.
