Amory – Duel Ray Strawbridge, 76, died on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at North MS Medical Center. Born on April 29, 1935, in the Grubb Springs Community, he was a son of the late Elbert Kirk and Vera Jewel Cox Strawbridge.
Mr. Strawbridge was a graduate of Greenwood Springs School. On August 14, 1954, he married Robbie Culver. Moving to Zion, IL, he began working for American Motors. He retired as a plant supervisor with Compacted Metals in Waukegan, IL. One who could build anything, he also worked as a general contractor. With his wife, they owned Robbie’s Country Hit Cookin. Mr. Strawbridge was a member of Zion First Baptist Church and was active in the Zion Chamber of Commerce.
Moving to Amory in 1993, he served as an ordained deacon and treasurer of Victory Baptist Church in Nettleton. Helping to build two churches, he and his wife started Sonrise Fellowship in their home. With sports being his life, he was an avid Brett Farve, Green Bay Packers, and Atlanta Braves fan. Guided in life by his faith and family, Mr. Strawbridge instilled excellent character traits in his family, especially the importance of education. A hard-worker and a work-a-holic, he was always tinkering when he wasn’t watching sports. Always smiling, Mr. Strawbridge was a prankster and had a great sense of humor. Having a love for children, he would help anyone in need. His family remembers him as a wonderful, loving, and dedicated family man. Mr. Strawbridge loved music and watching Joel Osteen on television.
