Sulphur Springs, TX – Dudley Harold Reedy, died on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at his residence. Born on March 22, 1929, in Smithville, he was a son of the late Alvin Carlos and Winna Mae Cheek Reedy.
Mr. Reedy graduated from Smithville High School in 1947, was Class President in 1946 and was Mr. Smithville in 1945. In 1951, he graduated from Mississippi State College with a BS degree in Agriculture and Dairy Husbandry. He honorably served as a Med Tech in Germany for the US Army during World War II. Beginning to work for Borden Dairy Company in Jackson during his Junior and Senior years of college, Mr. Reedy worked to produce the highest quality of products in Corpus Christi, TX for 18 years, Dallas for 10 years, and for Borden Specialty in Sulphur Springs for 12 years, retiring in 1991. Hard-working, dedicated, innovative, and witty with a dry humor, he was a perfectionist and family-oriented. He was Baptist. Mr. Reedy’s life was guided by his job, family, and health. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf in his younger days, cutting and baling hay, farming, being a rancher, repairing fences, traveling, new challenges and experiences, and old, traditional country and bluegrass music. Mr. Reedy was a member of the Rotary Club, Quarter Century Club, and Manufacturer’s Association.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Wells Reedy; 4 daughters, Gail Reedy Powell, Royse City, TX, Leigh Ann Reedy, US Virgin Islands, Lisa Jane Reedy Beattie (William V.), Humble, TX, and Linda Ellen Reedy (Ron), Rosharon, TX,; 2 step-daughters, Kristy Wells Steger (Jeff), Rockwall, TX, and Tori Wells, Greenville, TX; step-son, Casey Wells, Sulphur Springs, TX; sisters, Carolyn Kisner (Byron), Olive Branch and Ann Shelton (Richard), Memphis; grandchildren, Clint Powell, Amanda Powell, Billy Beattie, Holly Beattie, Danny Beattie, and Heather Reedy; great-grandchildren, Ethan Powell and Blake Beattie; and nephew and niece, Rick Shelton, Carla Shelton Fletcher.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lara Lynn Reedy Reiner; son-in-law, Mark Powell; sister, Doris Reedy; and niece, Donna Shelton.
A Double Graveside Inurnment Service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, July 13 in Maxey Cemetery with Bro. Tommy Whaley officiating. Lara Lynn's request was to rest near her father and mother. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 PM.
