Amory – Douglas R. Tubb, 90, died on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at his residence. Born on April 1, 1924, in Monroe County, he was a son of the late Carlos and Verlie Ritter Tubb.
After graduating from Hatley High School, Class of 1942, he joined the US Navy where he was a Seabee, serving in World War II. Receiving his discharge in 1946, he graduated from Hemphill Diesel School in Memphis. On August 12, 1952, he married Marie Rieves. Mr. Tubb was an engineer with Frisco Railroad and Frisco-Burlington Northern Railroad for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Locomotive, Farming and Engineers and the American Legion Post #25. Mr. Tubb attended New Hope Primitive Baptist Church. With life guided by his faith and family, he enjoyed bird hunting, farming, spending time with his children and grandchildren, gardening, fishing, traveling, Southern Gospel music, and watching Gospel Channel 23.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marie R. Tubb, Amory; daughter, Debra Marie Carter (Jerry Dan), Amory; son, Michael Douglas Tubb (Debbie), Amory; sister, Anna Ray Gassaway (Jimmy) Starkville; brother, Dr. Grayden Tubb (Mavis), Oxford; grandchildren, Amber Carter Smith, Cory Carter, Jessica Tubb King, and Jason Douglas King; great-grandchildren, Cayden Smith, Colbie Grace Smith, Blaise King, Brannen Douglas King, and Walker Douglas Tubb; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lester, Flynt, and Lamar Tubb.
A Funeral Service will be held at 4 PM, Friday, May 30 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cory Carter, Jason Tubb, Sam Mitchell, Steve Fowlkes, Doug Fowlkes, Glenn Smith, and Shannon King. Honorary pallbearer will be Railroad retirees.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8PM, Thursday, May 29 at the funeral home.
