Horn Lake – Douglas H Mixon, 71, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – DeSoto, Southaven. Born on January 9, 1943, in Pine Springs Community of Lamar County, AL, he was a son of the late Alvin Hobson and Katie Mansell Mixon.
He was a devout Christian and honorably served in the US Navy on the USS Aeolus. Mr. Mixon was a driver for Greyhound for 25 years and Roadway for 17 years. He loved music, played guitar and bass and in his younger years, and enjoyed singing.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dolores Mixon, of Horn Lake; son, Carl Douglas Mixon (Donna) Knoxville, TN; daughter, Kerri Anne Cox (Rob) Madison; brothers, Harold Hoyt Mixon, Amory, Doyle Gene Mixon (Gay), Shannon, and Colon Mixon, Plantersville; granddaughters, Katie Rose Mixon, Elizabeth Anne Cox, and Morgan Faith Mixon; step-grandson, Conner Sims; and his aunt, Gladys Pennington, Sulligent, AL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Redus Buford Mixon, and a sister, Johnnie Mixon.
Visitation was held on Sunday, April 6 from 2-4 PM at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven.
A funeral service will be held at 1 PM, Tuesday, April 8 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with burial following in Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Beaverton, AL.
Visitation will be from 11 AM until the service hour on Tuesday.
Memorials may be given to a charity of choice.
