Amory – Douglas “Doug” C. Young, 77, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at Gilmore Memorial Merit Health. Born on March 2, 1938, in Smithville, MS, he was a son of the late Cleburn and Idra Lee Williams Young.

Doug attended school in Smithville and graduated in 1956. He was a faithful Christian man who attended Meadowood Baptist Church for 37 years. He loved God and his family, who affectionately nicknamed him “Daddy Doug”. He married his sweetheart, Ruth Stevens Young on April 11, 1958 and they were happily married for 57 years. Together they raised two sons. Doug honorably served in the National Guard for 8 years. Doug co-owned Smithville Milling. He was a carpenter and a plant manager of Pyco Industry. He was a giving man who was involved in the community. He enjoyed traveling, wood working, boating, and camping. In his free time, Doug liked to watch Western Movies and Sports Games. He was passionate about his family, especially watching his kids and grandkids’ sports games.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth S. Young, Amory; sons, Monty Young (Pam), Smithville, Cliff Young, Smithville; sister, Sharla Ruth West (Harold), Amory; brother, Jimmy Young, Smithville; grandchildren, Wesley Young (Leslie), Amory, Blair Childers (Wayne), Smithville, Drake Young (Paige), Smithville; great-grandchild, Cullen Douglas Minor, Smithville; several nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Young.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, August 7, 2015, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Harold West, Mark Johnson, Jason Munn, Patrick Young, Jason Gallop, Billy Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Comer, Reagan Fikes, and Russell Smith.

Visitation will start at 5PM, Thursday, August 6, 2015, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, MS.
