Dorothy Black Tidwell

Wren – Dorothy Black Tidwell, 93, passed away, with her family surrounding her, on September 20, 2017, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital, Amory. Born on June 28, 1924, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Irene Bell Pickle Black.

Dorothy attended Sipsey Fork School. On August 24, 1940, she married the love-of-her-life, Leburn E. Tidwell. Together, they were blessed by God with eight children. Dearly loving all of her family, she was a determined and great lady who possessed the most loving and sweetest heart. In addition to being a nurturing and loving mother to a large family, she was also gifted seamstress and not afraid of hard work. Dorothy worked in the garment and furniture industry before retiring. A precious child of God, Dorothy grew up worshiping the Lord in Sipsey Fork Free Will Baptist Church.

She was passionate about her family and cherished spending time with them. Her other passion late in life was playing Bingo at the nursing home. One who loved the outdoors and staying active, Dorothy had a green thumb and she loved working in her flower garden as well as growing some vegetables. She enjoyed listening to Gospel music and watching Gospel channel 39. Dorothy leaves behind a wonderful legacy of love and cherished memories that will live on for family generations.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra Gosa (Larry), Sulligent, Delores Ann Turner, Nettleton, Sue Beard (Alva), Amory; sons, Earnest Tidwell (Geraldine), Wren; Bobby Tidwell (Diane), Larry Tidwell, and Roger Tidwell (Debbie) of Amory; a large host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leburn E. Tidwell; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley & Richard Mohler; sister, Eunice McCool; and granddaughters, Kimberly Mohler and Hollie Chism.

Her Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, September 22 at Pickle Cemetery with Bro. Edward Puckett officiating. Friends and family are asked to meet at E. E. Pickle Funeral home at 10 a.m. Pallbearers will be Heath Morris; Nathan Dabbs; Charles Harris; Brad and Scott Tidwell; Tim Gosa.
