Dorothy Nell Irvin Puckett, 82, died on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory. Born May 17, 1930, she was a daughter of the late John Raymond and Birtha Turman Irvin. She married William Green Puckett in 1948; he survives. A devoted wife and mother, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, and quilting for her children and grandchildren. Before her retirement, she worked in the garment industry, worked in the cafeteria at Beverly Nursing Home, and was manager of the Hatley School cafeteria. A woman of faith, she was a member of the Hatley Missionary Baptist Church.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Dean Smith and Bro. Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial will be in the Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Anderson Ritter, Dean Irvin, Gary Johnson, W.D. Doster, Milton Threadgill, Dennis Mitchell, Tim Puckett, and Donald Puckett. Honorary pallbearers will be David Irvin, Bobby Feaker, Roger Spratlin, Mitchell Puckett, Joel Puckett, Mark Puckett, Doug Puckett, Dean Baker, and Johnny Irvin.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, William Green Puckett of Amory; son, Jimmy G. Puckett (Charlotte) of Amory; daughter-in-law, Julia Puckett; brother, James Troy Irvin (Mary Ann) of Amory; 3 sisters-in-law, Margaret Irvin, Opal Irvin, and Hazel Jones; 4 grandchildren, Amanda Puckett DeHertogh (Mark), Ashlee Puckett Cash (Billy), Emilee Puckett, and Laura Puckett Evans (Jake); 2 great grandchildren, Ella Grace Cash and Ricky Vade Cash; a host of nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Peggy, Keisha, and Angie Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ricky Lee Puckett; 3 brothers, Earnest, E.G., and Joe Irvin; and 2 sisters, Fletta Taylor and Bertha Lou Moore.
Visitation will continue until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.
