Amory – Dorothy J. Betts-Stivala, 79, died on Friday, December 6, 2013, at her residence under the care of her loving daughter and Legacy Hospice. Born on March 3, 1934, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late Edward C. “Tobe” and Edna Hazel Turner Betts.
Mrs. Betts-Stivala was a graduate of Becker School. A caring and determined lady, she worked as an LPN with Gilmore Memorial Hospital and retired from North MS Medical Center. She was a member of East Amory Baptist Church. Generous, Mrs. Betts-Stivala enjoyed giving gifts to people and doing crafts.
Survivors include her daughters, Janet Stivala-Avery, Avon Park, FL, and Roselyn A. Powell, Mantachie; son, Michael Stivala, Henderson, TN; sister, Mary Betts-Webb-Fields, Starkville; brother, Bob Betts, Sarasota, FL; grandchildren, Nathan Gazaway, Anthony Gazaway, Jonah Avery, Julie Benson, Trista Stivala, and Tresa Stivala; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Callie and Braedon Gazaway; Ethan Gazaway; Ryan Benson, and Jacob Benson; nieces and nephews, Hope Webb-Caldwell, Matthew Betts, Heath Betts, Patricia Stevens, and Debbie Newton
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Stivala-Hester, and a brother, Tom Betts.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 PM, Monday, December 9 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Legacy Hospice and Lifeline Companions.
