– Dorothy “Dot” Harris Hannon, 88, died on Friday, December 16, 2011, at her residence. Born on December 9, 1923, in Splunge MS, she was a daughter of the late Matt M. Harris and Sudie Odom Harris. She met, fell in love with, and married the love of her life, Dewey Hannon Sr. in 1940. He died in 1983. Before her retirement, she worked for Monroe Trousers in Smithville for 46 years. She was a member of Smithville United Methodist Church and attended Joel Davis’s Sunday School Class. A homemaker, she enjoyed making others happy and giving away cakes and pies. A Godly woman, caring and generous, she lived for her husband and family. She is survived by her son, Dewey Hannon, Jr. (Kay) of Amory; 2 grandchildren, Christie Francis (Chris) of Baton Rouge, LA and Matt Hannon (Lauren) of Amory; 4 great-grandchildren, Baxter and Ethan Francis and Will and Abby Hannon; sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Cowart of Amory; nieces and nephews, Bobbie Barnett, Kenny Harris, and Bill Clement; life-long friend, Evelyn Kennedy; special friends, Deborah Northington and Ruby Gideon; and special neighbor, Bobby Oliver.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Hannon; one brother, Mac Harris; one sister, Sue Clement; and niece, Susie McCann. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, December 18 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Rev. Charles Coggins and Rev. Sammy Washburn officiating. Burial will follow in Smithville Cemetery.
