Amory – Dorothy Brown Anthony, 95, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at her residence. Born on January 15, 1916, in the Liberty Community of Monroe County, she was a daughter of the Romie Thomas and Callie Malone Brown.
Mrs. Anthony was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1934. Involved in two family businesses, Mrs. Anthony and her sister, Mae, opened the Dorothy Mae Shop in 1941, and with her husband, they opened Anthony’s Men’s Shop in 1946. A very faithful member of First Baptist Church, she served on various committees and in the WMU. Always active in the community, Mrs. Anthony was a member of the Aurora Club. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, traveling, sewing and cooking.
She is survived by her daughter, Dottie (Gene) Haney, Amory; granddaughter, Elizabeth (John) Barron, Columbia, SC; and great-grandchildren, Ashley and Hailey Barron. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hudson Anthony; sisters, Ruby B. Harwell and Mae B. Alexander; and brothers, Mark, Carlos, and Claudie Murle Brown.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Friday at First Baptist Church, Amory with Dr. Allen Simpson and Bro. Jimmy McFatter officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Greenhaw, David Henry, H. L. Robinson, Tommy Parish, Larry Knox and John Clingan.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.
