Doris Jean 'D. J.' Stoker

Smithville - Doris Jean "D. J." Riggan Stoker, 77, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Generations of Vernon, AL. Born on June 22, 1937, in Hamilton, she was a daughter of the late Reba Mae Riggan Adams.

D. J. attended Smithville School. A hard-worker who often worked 2 – 3 jobs at a time, she was employed for 40 years with Blue Bell and Glenn Manufacturing, retiring as a floor lady. D. J. also worked as a Real Estate agent and toured with the Senior PGA Tour working at each event. Her husband’s job with Norfolk Southern took them to Louisiana, Alabama, Virginia, and South Carolina. A member of Bigbee Baptist Church, she was active in the Senior Citizens group and coordinated the pray chain alerts. She was loving and passionate about her family, friends, and her poodle, Michelle. Her hobby of making Carousel horses and dolls turned into a new business venture. Active, precious, and determined, she enjoyed traveling, going to the beach, singing and playing the piano, sewing, and fishing. D.J. enjoyed listening to Country music, especially George Jones and Percy Sledge. Very funny, her favorite quote was “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”

Survivors include her daughters, Wanda Blaylock (Doug), Greenwood Springs, Judy Langford, Baldwin, Beth Holmes (Ricky), Hamilton, AL, and Angie Stricklin (Craig), Winfield, AL; son, Kevin Langford, Blue Springs; sisters, Patsy Robinson (Bob), Smithville and Thoma Duvall, Tupelo; grandchildren, Bridgett, Amber, Carla, Chris, Alan, Eron, Tracy, Tanner, Rachel, and Jason; 18 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special lifetime friends, Doris F. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Albert “Bud” Langford and Basil Howard; son, Keith Langford; grandson, Tony Langford; sisters, Dorothy Petty and Merlie Landon; and brother, J. B. Riggan, Jr.
