Amory – Doris Hodges, 79, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at River Place Nursing Center, Amory. Born on June 8, 1939, in Amory, she was a daughter of the late Edgar H. and Millie Marie Berryhill Tackett.
She lived most of her life in Monroe County, MS. She married Troy L. Hodges on April 4, 1963. They were blessed with three wonderful daughters. Doris was a homemaker until the girls were old enough to take care of themselves. She was a nurturing mother who gave of her time and talents to her family. When her grandchildren came along, she spoiled them. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Doris worked at McCoy Manufacturing, The Clothes Hanger, Blacks Department Store, and the Cable Company. She enjoyed cooking, cross stitching, sewing, vegetable gardening and growing beautiful flowers among other things. She liked to spend time with some of her close friends like Nelda and Richard Justice, Vera and Jo Suggs, , and Lynda Moore.
She is survived by three daughters, Sherry Lynn Westberry (Stacy) of Washington, GA; Vanessa Kay Ellis, Hatley; Melanie Jean Hannigan (Patrick), Itawamba County, MS; grandchildren, who were the light of her life, James Troy Ellis (Savannah), Hatley; Thomas Luke Ellis, Hatley; Zachary Lawrence Hannigan (Allison), Birmingham; Samantha Joanne Brancel, Kingsland, GA; great grandchild, Andrew Myles Ellis; sister, Jean Smith, Memphis; nieces, Brenda Waldrop, Columbus; Linda Hebert (Paul), Caledonia, Patricia Moore (Brad), Hatley, Debbie Taylor (Larry), Columbus, Wendy Martin (Scott), Carolina Community, Jennie Weeks, (Guy), TN; nephews, Bobby Young, Auburn Community, Billy Joe Tackett and Tim Tackett, Cason Community.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Troy L. Hodges; sister, Eva Jewel Egan; brothers, William W. Tackett, Houston Tackett, Horace Tackett and Jessie Tackett.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, May 3, 2019, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Dr. Roy McHenry officiating. Bobby Cantrell will be the eulogist. Burial will follow in New Masonic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at the funeral home in Amory.
