Amory – Donald L. Knight, 79, died on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, at his residence. Born on January 14, 1932, in Lamar County, AL, he was a son of the late Jerry W. and Clara Stanford Knight.
Mr. Knight attended Pine Springs School in Lamar County. He honorably served his country during the Korean War in the US Air Force. After returning home, he received his electrical license from IJC. He married Ruth Burks on June 22, 1957. Mr. Knight owned and operated Knight Electric Company. A Methodist, he was a member of Hatley United Methodist Church. Mr. Knight was a member of the Splunge Masonic Lodge #602 and the IBEW Local #852. Always looking forward to spending time with friends, he enjoyed the fellowship with his Coffee Club friends at Amory Café. Being with his family and watching the Chicago Cubs baseball games gave Mr. Knight the most enjoyment in life. A plain spoken gentleman, he enjoyed fishing and watching Gospel Channel 39.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Knight, Amory; daughters, Donna Ballard (Kenny), Amory and Reneé Clayton (Mark), Tupelo; sister, Martha Holloway (Duane), Smithville; brothers, Joe Knight (Caroline), Amory and Larry Knight (Rubye), Greenwood Springs; grandchildren, Brian Ballard, Nick Ballard (Jessica), Leah Clayton, and Adam Clayton; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hilmer Hudson; and brothers, J. C., L. C., Jim, and David Knight.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, December 22 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Coggins and Bro. Sammy Washburn officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Kenny, Brian, and Nick Ballard; Mark and Adam Clayton; and Joe Burks. Honorary pallbearers will be Warner Hester and Hollis Parker.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
