Splunge – Donald F. Johnson, 81, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo. Born on December 26, 1935, in Lamar County, AL, he was a son of the late Lester and Tyna Irvin Johnson.

Donald was a graduate of Sulligent High School, Class of 1955. After school, he joined the US Air Force, serving in England and was honorably discharged in 1959. On May 8, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Nellie Sue Stanford, and they were blessed with a son. Not afraid of hard work, Donald’s first job was with Glenn Manufacturing. He later went to work with Vista Chemical Corporation in Aberdeen where he made many close friends. Donald was passionate about getting a good education and using that knowledge by working hard every day. After 30 devoted years in his career, he retired as a Vinyl Operations Supervisor at Vista. Donald was a great provider for his family.

He loved the Lord and was a member of Splunge Baptist Church. Donald was a wonderful role model and good husband, father, and grandfather. He was hardworking, witty, always smiling and full of cheer. Donald cherished spending time with and spoiling his granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Caroline. He was a member of the VFW Post #4490 and he enjoyed listening to Gospel, Bluegrass and Country music. One who loved being outdoors and staying busy, Donald enjoyed gardening and mowing. Donald will be missed dearly and he leaves behind a legacy of love and great memories for his family and friends.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Nellie Sue Johnson, Splunge; son, Dr. Kevin Johnson (Alison), Saltillo; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Caroline Johnson, Saltillo; sisters, Doris Spillers, Moulton, AL, and Peggy Bullock, Winfield, AL; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Kitchens.

His Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, November 25 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. Jim Rutledge officiating. Burial will follow in Lann Cemetery Splunge. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Boozer, Jason Minga, Jolly Faulkner, James Whitlock, Bobby Hawkins and Roger Collins.

Visitation will be from 12 – 1:50 PM, Saturday, at the funeral home.
