Amory – George Donald Banks, 72, died Monday, July 11, 2011 at Oak Tree Plantation in Amory. A native of Jasper Alabama, he was born on June 5, 1939 to the late Graydon George and Verna Lee Haynes Banks.
Donald was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1957 and a graduate of The University Of Mississippi. He married Becky Kennedy on March 1, 1958, who survives. In the retail furniture business for many years, Donald was the owner and operator of his retail stores, retiring from Banks Furniture in Amory. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Amory. Donald loved traveling with his friends, playing golf and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Becky Kennedy Banks of Amory; his son, David Banks (Libby) of Tupelo; his daughter, Dianna Outlaw of Amory; his brother, Dr. Frank Banks (Lucy) of Oxford; three grandchildren, Shane Outlaw, Nikki Banks Thompson, and Renea Outlaw; his nieces and nephews, Nancy Johnson, Jeannie Peterson, Kathy Vann and Frank Banks, Jr.; special friends, Lawrence and Faye Stevens and Linda Geyer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Banks and special friend, Charles Geyer.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 13 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Allen Simpson and Bro. Jimmy McFatter officiating. Burial will follow at Haughton Memorial Park in Amory. Pallbearers will be Lawrence Stevens, Billy Rainey, Terry McCary, Don Leech, Jerry Maxcy, Curtis Lewellen, Dr. Henry Watson and Jerry Reese.
Visitation will continue Wednesday until time for the service.
