Amory – Dewey Wayne Williams, 84, died on Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Sanctuary Hospice House, Tupelo. Born on October 28, 1928, in Monroe County, he was a son of the late Jimmie Ike Rutledge Dewey W. Williams, Sr.
He married Emma Jean Harlow on May 15, 1952. Before retirement, Mr. Williams was employed as a maintenance foreman at Kerr-McGee Chemical Corporation, Hamilton. He was a member of Grady’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Wren. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his family. Mr. Williams was an avid Amory Panther and MS State Bulldog fan. He loved watching all sports, working in the yard, vacationing every year with his family at the beach, and going to the casino. Christmas was his favorite time of the year. A practical jokester, he was also known to many as “Hot Williams.”
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Emma Jean Harlow Williams, Amory; daughters, Teresa Doss (Robbie), Aberdeen, Wanda Brasfield (Dennis), Amory, Delores Jackson (Tim), Oxford, and Cindy Navarro (Jeff), Amory; son, Brad Williams, Amory; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 –great- great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, James, Therrell, and Rutledge Williams.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, September 3 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Dennis Smithey and Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating. Burial will follow in Wren Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brad Williams, Hunter Williams, Forest Williams, Chad Pounders, Michael Parker, Dustin Parker, and Stone Hunter. Honorary pallbearers will be Ethan and Gabriel Navarro.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
