Hershel Oliver, Sr., 85, died on Friday, November 25, 2011, at his residence. Born on April 14, 1926, in Marion County, AL, he was a son of the late Charles and Cora Rea Oliver.Mr. Oliver attended Hamilton Schools. He married his childhood sweetheart, Louise Copeland, on July 5, 1952. Having a strong work ethic, Mr. Oliver was a farmer and a gravel pit worker. He was a member of Bethel Apostolic Church. A wonderful husband and father, Mr. Oliver instilled great values in the lives of his family. Fun-loving with a great sense of humor, he loved family gatherings. Mr. Oliver enjoyed tinkering, working on cars, and Gospel music.He is survived by his wife, Louise C. Oliver, Amory; daughters, Barbara Williams (Sam), Gattman, Darlene Kelton (Jerry), Booneville, Glenda McCullar (Dale), Hatley, and Harryette Gosa (Jeff), Greenwood Springs; son, Dewey Oliver (Tina), Smithville; special nephew, Pick Pickle (Sharon), Chicago, IL; sister, Betty Mailhot, Buffalo, NY; sisters-in-law, Lena Mae Oliver, Francis Baggett, Magaline Oliver, and Leona Sain; brothers-in-law, Johnny Pickle and J. W. Sain; grandchildren, Joe, Reba, Nadine, Tony, Charlene, Craig, Micheal, Mickey, Keith, Billy, Jon, Bryanna, and Libby; step-grandchildren, Royce, Dee, and Jennifer; 28 great-grandchildren; 2 great- great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Billy Sorrells and Hal Lovern.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 10 brothers.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 PM, Monday, November 28 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Stanley Blaylock and Bro. Philip Blaylock officiating. Burial will follow in Fig Hill Cemetery.
