Carolina – Dewey C. Bethay, 94, died on Thursday, July 24, 2014, at his residence. Born on October 9, 1919, in Carolina, he was a son of the late Ed and Lillian Nichols Bethay.
Mr. Bethay attended Itawamba County Schools. He married Lillian Farr on September 12, 1941, and honorably served in the US Army in the 322nd Infantry Wildcat Division in the Southern Philippines and Western Pacific during World War II. In 1994, he retired as a framebuilder from Peopleloungers. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. A hardworking man who was content with life, he enjoyed his family, woodworking, gardening, the New Orleans Saints, and Southern Gospel music. Mr. Bethay was passionate about the Carolina Community and St. Jude.
Survivors include his daughter, Linda Dozier (Roger) and son, Michael Bethay, of Carolina; grandchildren, Teresa Blake (Tommy), Scotty Dozier (Heidi), Tanya Dozier (Tommy Todd), and John Dozier of Carolina; and Tina Dozier, Fulton; 9 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and his dog Molly.
The last living survivor of the late Ed and Lillian Bethay, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Bethay on May 19, 2003; 4 sisters and 4 brothers.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, July 27 at Cason Baptist Church with Bro. Howard Pearce and Bro. Joey Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow in Carolina Cemetery with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be Jake Smith, Solomon Ring, Caleb Walton, Cory Maxwell, Butch Moore, Scotty Dozier, John Dozier, and Levi Blake.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Saturday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory. Mr. Bethay will lie-in-state at the church from 1 PM until the service hour.
