Born on July 31, 1931, in Smithville, he was a son of the late Esmond Truett and Katie Bell Emory Ritter.Mr. Ritter was a graduate of Smithville High School, Class of 1953. He honorably served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and served 40 more years with the Army National Guard, where he was a member of the Mississippi Army National Guard Association. Working as a cloth spreader and inspector, Mr. Ritter had worked at Townhouse in Verona before working at Amory Garment for 30 years. He was a very active member of First Presbyterian Church. Cherishing time spent with his family, Mr. Ritter was a former Boy Scout leader and enjoyed fishing, traveling and Gospel music. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shirley Due Ritter, Amory; daughter, Debbie (Eddie) Sanders, Amory; sons, Truitt (Christy) Ritter, Smithville, Tony (Ginger) Ritter, McComb, Mike Ritter, Smithville, and Tim (Rhonda) Ritter, Evergreen; step-son, Crafton (Marla) Laney, Fulton; sister, Elizabeth Waycaster, Becker; brother, E. T. “Junior” Ritter, Jr., Point, TX; grandchildren, Andy and Kayla Prestridge, Daniel and Mason Ritter and Terri Ritter; step-grandchildren, Nicholas, Micah and Jordan Laney; great-granddaughter, BreAnna Ritter; and several nieces and nephews.A Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Dr. Tom Cheatham officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Andy Prestridge, Cody Cook, Danny Jones, Randal Waycaster, Kendall Waycaster, Keith Rogers, Roger Thompson and Larry Marett. Honorary pallbearers will be former members of the Army National Guard.Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM Friday at the funeral home.Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, 209 4th St. S., Amory, MS 38821.Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at eepicklefuneralhome.com. Arrangements for the Ritter family are in the care of E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.
