Dennis Waldrop

Columbus/Hatley – Dennis Wayne Waldrop, 70, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at his residence in Columbus, MS. He was born on May 6, 1952, in Columbus, MS, to the late Compie and Myrtle Kyles Waldrop.

Dennis grew up in Monroe County and graduated from Hatley High School with the class of 1970. He furthered his education at ICC where he attended school for two years. Dennis went on to serve in the United States Air Force as a Sergeant from 1972 until 1976. A hard worker, he worked his entire career with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, in Amory, MS, where he was a Lock/Dam Operator. An intelligent and dependable man, he was determined to provide greatly for his family and he succeeded.

He was Christian man who believed in God. Dennis was kind, caring and loving to those around him. Dennis was blessed with two sons, a wife, grandkids, and many good friends. Of all his accomplishments in life, he was most proud of raising his two sons. Some of his close friends were Johnny Northington, Dillard Harris, Mickey Bray, Olivar and Laurie Rhudy, and the late Eddie Tipton. They enjoyed grilling out, having fellowship while sitting by the fire or under the “lying tree”.

In his free time, he loved to do just about anything outside. He liked to garden, travel, go hunting, play tennis, and play his guitar. Dennis was a member of the Splunge Hunting Club and The Magnolia Tennis club. He enjoyed listening to classic rock and roll music like the Allman Brothers, the Blue Brothers, and Pink Floyd. More than anything he cherished the time with his family. He was passionate about giving to St. Jude’s Childrens’ Research Hospital.

He was a special man, friend to many, and a one of a kind. Dennis will be dearly missed and those who knew and loved him will cherish the memories made with him.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Bonnie Rhudy Waldrop, Columbus, MS; sons, Ryan Waldrop, Manhattan, NY, Dustin Waldrop, Columbus, MS; brother, Joe Waldrop (Amy), Amory; step-son, Justin Kimbrough (Haley), Columbus; step-daughter, Angie Dean, Columbus; 8 step-grandchildren, Claire, Gracie, Grant and Cole Kimbrough; Alex, Isaac, Scarlet and Ruby Dean; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Swan Spencer, Nick Waldrop (Brittany), Grant Adams, Jesse Hebert (Jolene), and Jamie Hebert (Jenni).
