Deborah "Debbie" Goode

Amory – Deborah “Debbie” or “Mamaw” Goode, 71, entered the presence of her Heavenly Father on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at the NMMC – Gilmore, Amory. Born on January 26, 1948, in Sevierville, TN, she was a daughter of Don and Lela Irene Hamilton Roberts.

Debbie’s family moved from Tennessee to Pontiac, MI, and later to Albuquerque, NM. It was in Albuquerque where Debbie met the love of her life, Lee Goode, after he had just gotten out of the Army. They were married at a young age, on December 20, 1962, and God blessed them with 57 years of marriage. Debbie and Lee, aka “Honey,” had six children as well as many other foster and community children who were raised in their home.

Her career was being a homemaker, a caretaker to many and a volunteer for hospice patients for numerous years. She loved her role as Momma and cherished being the best Mamaw in town. A great cook, Debbie enjoyed canning; making apple, strawberry and peach fried pies; making the best chicken and dumplings, as well as her favorite dish, spaghetti.

A woman who loved God, she was an active member of Meadowood Baptist Church who loved her church family. She enjoyed Church mission trips and helping children to seek and find Christ. Her family described her as a woman who liked to be the light and give God all the glory. An outspoken woman, confident in her faith and life experiences, Debbie was always willing to share her knowledge and a helping hand. During her lifetime, she was blessed with many wonderful friends and she never met a stranger, whether you agreed with her or not.

In her free time, she liked to listen to Country and Gospel music. One who didn’t mind pushing buttons, she also “loved Old Miss and liked MSU.” She was an avid Amory Panther fan. Skilled in fishing, she especially liked catching bass and walleye. Debbie’s greatest accomplishments in life were the relationships she helped nurture through life and the souls she helped lead to Christ.

There are too many wonderful memories to list which Debbie gave to her family and friends. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her. Her family is thankful for her now complete healing and all the wonderful times they shared with her over the years.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Lee, Amory; sons, Allen Vernon Goode (Lisa), Amory; Edward Goode (Jennifer), Sulligent, AL; Dexter Goode (K.D.), Wren; daughters, Pat Goode Edwards (Terry Joe ), Hamilton; LeaAnn Nix (Randall), Amory; Terri Winter, Wren; 18 grandchildren, Scott Edwards, Chassie Nix, Derrick Nix, Erin Welch, Levi Goode, Haley Goode, John Silas Goode, Jake Winter, Drew Winter, Joshua Winter, Billie Claire Goode, Carleigh Goode, Sierra McDonald, Caitlin White, Tobi Goode, Cole Goode; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Merry Morris, Clarksville, TN; Dee Dee Ward, Albuquerque, NM; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Betty Ayala and Evelyn Lancaster.
