– David Ray Sorrells, Sr., 68, died on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at his residence. Born on September 26, 1943, in Beaverton, AL, he was a son of the late Brownie and Christine Phillips Sorrells.
David attended Becker School. Following school, he honorably served in the US Army as a Paratrooper/Ranger in the 101st Airborne Division. Self-employed, David drove a truck for 40 years. He was Baptist. A hardworking and simple man, David enjoyed farming, hot housing, working on his tractors, spending time with family and friends, and listening to Old Country music.
He is survived by his sons, David Sorrells, Jr. (Jennifer), Dale Sorrells (Dana), of Becker and Brent Sorrells (Dana), Kentucky; sister, JoAnne Hilt (Van), Becker; grandchildren, Andrew and Alexis Sorrells, and Dylan Putney; two nieces and one nephew; and special friends, Willie Guy Myatt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Francis Kelly Sorrells.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, December 19 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Mac Phillips officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Calvary Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Willie Guy Myatt, Sr., Willie Guy Myatt, Jr., Wayne Pickle, John Strickland, D. J. McCormick, and Ronnie Griggs. Honorary pallbearers will be Timothy Comer and Jimmy Livingston.
