Amory – David Nelson Smith, 67, died on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at his residence under the care of Legacy Hospice. Born on August 27, 1947, in Vernon, AL, he was a son of Lovis Jean Hester Smith and the late Connie Smith.
David attended Lamar County High School. On October 21, 1966, he married Ann Harris. For 33 years, David was a welder and machinist at Aberdeen Machine Works. A family man whose life and family were guided by his faith in Jesus Christ, he was a member and Deacon of Meadowood Baptist Church. David enjoyed going to church, work, playing golf, going to grandkids ballgames, and Southern Gospel and Praise music.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Smith, Amory; mother, Lovis Jean Smith, Vernon, AL; daughters, Kristy Mitchell (Mike), Nettleton and Sandy Wright (Tony), Hatley; sisters, Liz Mays (Jerry) and Kathy Shelnut (David), Vernon, AL; brothers, Paul Smith (Gail), Hazlehurst, GA, and Jerry Smith (Barbara), Northport, AL; grandchildren, Chelsea and Harley Tucker; Ashton and Camron Wright; Cruz Mitchell; a host of nieces and nephews; special family friend, Hunter Williams.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Chloe Mitchell and a stillborn sister.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday at Meadowood Baptist Church with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt and Bro. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Steve Fowlkes, Jason Gallop, Randy Finch, Jimmy Lenderman, Marc Davis and Bobby White. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Meadowood Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Friday at the church.
