David Wayne Chism, 60 passed away on December 12, 2016 at Merit Health Gilmore Hospital. Born in Amory on September 18, 1956, he was a son of the late James Dudley and Joyce Monaghan Chism. He graduated from Amory High School in 1974. He spent 23 years with the U.S. Navy in communications. He was a member of the U.S. Navy Chief’s Club. He married the love of his life, Donna Martin Chism on August 15, 1980.
In his spare time, he loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed listening to classic rock. He loved working on outdoor projects with Danny Parham and spent a lot of time fishing for catfish with his friends Clifton (Bug) Thomas and J.D. Houk. Watching Nascar with his father in law, James Waits, was also a favorite pastime.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Martin Chism; daughter, Heather Chism Dettmers (Mike); son, Aaron Chism (Heather Houk); sisters, Brenda Chism Wilson (John), Amory, Cathy Chism Ratliff (Lonnie), Amory; brothers Randy Chism (Lisa), Amory, Ricky Chism (Marilyn), Starkville, Jeff Chism (Marla), Amory; one grandson: Zachary Houk Chism; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Patrick Lane Chism and his mother-in-law, Gloria Jean Waits.
Graveside services for Mr. Chism will be at 11:00 am, Friday, December 16, 2016 at Greenbriar Cemetery in Becker, MS. Pallbearers will be Danny Parham, Chris Smith, J.D. Houk, Randy Smith, Ronnie Smith, Wesley Hoffman. Honorary pallbearers will be Clifton (Bug) Thomas, Benny Hill, and James Waits.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
