Darrell D. Colburn
Aberdeen – Darrell Colburn, 58, passed away on Friday morning, October 25, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus, MS. He was born on March 29, 1966, in Amory, MS to the late Douglas Wayne Colburn and Linda Sue Cantrell Colburn.
Darrell grew up in Monroe County and graduated from Amory High School. He furthered his education by attending ICC where he got his Emergency Medical Technician Degree. He was the guy you wanted to show up if you had an emergency. Talented with his hands and quick on his feet, he worked for Med Stat in Amory and Aberdeen. He was also an EMT at Hunter Douglas and Baptist Memorial Hospital. He enjoyed his work helping others in need and when the Hurricane Katrina came through Florida and the tornado came through Smithville he responded quickly to the calls for help. Darrell was proud to be able to help so many members of the devastated communities. In addition to being an EMT, Darrell also welded for a while at ITT Fabri-Valve.
A jokester and avid Mississippi State Fan, he was kind to everyone he met. Darrell loved his family, was proud of how they had grown up and above all things, he enjoyed just spending time with them. He married the love of his life, Tracy Scitzs and they were able to share so many happy years together.
In his down time, he liked go fishing, playing golf or working outside in his garden. Some of his closest friends were Danny Gentry and David Jackson along with many others. He liked to chill out and listen to Rock music and just be with one of his other best friends, Charlie his dog.
There is no doubt that he is with his Lord and Savior. Darrell was a longtime member of Riverbend Baptist Church in Aberdeen and he loved God and his church. He liked to listen to Gospel music and just love others the way Jesus loved him. When he would mess with people, after they might have said something silly, he would say to them “How did that go again?” His smile was always welcome in times of joy as well as stressful times as he always rose to the occasion. He was a talented strong man whose presence will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Tracy Scitzs Colburn, Aberdeen; daughters, Brittany McGehee (Dave), Pontotoc, Samantha Walker, Aberdeen, and Jami Yarbrough (Tyler), Louisville; his son, Justin Colburn, VanCleave, MS; eleven grandchildren; two nieces, Madison Gilland (John Morgan), Nettleton, and Lindsey Hester (Levi), Hatley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Chris Colburn.
