Amory – Danny Richard Taylor, 75, passed away on October 27, 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Amory and began his new life in Heaven. He was born on June 5, 1949, in Aberdeen, MS to the late Daniel Young Taylor and Eunice Christine Tubb Taylor.
Danny attended school in Aberdeen and at a young age he was drafted to serve in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. He was a Patriot and a proud American, who during his tenure as a Combat Infantryman, was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. His service and experiences on the battlefield eventually put him at status of a Disabled Veteran yet he would have fought his entire life if he was able. Danny also served as a Member of the US Mississippi Army National Guard, Unit 223, in Aberdeen and through the years he made many friends and learned multiple life lessons.
He worked as a Frame Supervisor at United Furniture for many years. He was a great provider to his family and a supportive husband to his wife, Dixie Jones, who he married on September 9, 1983. They were blessed by God with a daughter, Jeanna, and two granddaughters whom he cherished. He was a Christian, believed in the Lord and was a member of Athens Baptist Church and later in life attended Victory Baptist Church. In addition to his family, some of his closest friends were Craig Wedel, Robert Moore, James Dale Houk, Willam Drake, David Wofford, Red Hamilton, and Jon Lepicier.
He was fun and caring with a good personality. He was a Mason and a Shriner and a member of The American Legion in Aberdeen, MS. The outdoors was his favorite place to be and he really enjoyed pheasant, deer, squirrel and duck hunting. He loved his dogs, Marlee and Black Betty, working in his gardens, especially tending to his tomatoes, and going fishing on the quiet afternoons. Danny liked to listen to 60’s and Country music and was also an avid Ole Miss fan. On any given day, you could find him in his recliner watching the news or sports. Although he will be missed dearly, his family knows that he is ultimately healed and in complete peace.
Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time. We pray that God lays his peaceful healing hands on each and every one of them.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dixie Jones Taylor, Amory; daughter, Jeanna McCartney (Spencer), Hamilton; grandchildren, Seavey Caroline Bean and Molly Claire McCartney, Hamilton; sisters, Margaret Ann Drake (William), Wren, and Deborah Perkins (Randall), Hamilton; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dan and Eunice Taylor, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Dick and Jean Lee Jones; and several close friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 10:00 am at EE Pickle Funeral Home with a Graveside Service with Military Honors at 11:00 am at Amory Historical Society Cemetery, Amory, MS. Bro. Robert Earl Fowlkes and Bro. Robert Moore will be officiating.
The legacy he leaves behind of love and great memories will be cherished forever. The family asked that memorials be made in his honor to DTD Outdoors and Monroe County Whitetails Unlimited. Checks may be made to D.T.D. Outdoors and mail them to PO Box 25, Amory, MS, 38821. For additional information on supporting this nonprofit, please contact Chad Hill, 662-640-2802.
