Curtis McCartney
Amory, Miss.—Curtis Elton McCartney, 88, died on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Oak Tree Plantation in Amory. Born February 14, 1924, he was a son of the late Joe Carl and Beulah Smith McCartney. A graduate of Winters High School, he worked in sales with R.E. Janes Gravel Co., Inc. in Abilene before his retirement. He married Rheba Guy; she died in January, 2012. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the 11th Airborne Division from 1943-1946. A family man and a man of faith, he was a member of the Meadowood Baptist Church in Amory and the Gideon’s International. His hobbies were playing dart ball and dominoes.
A private graveside service will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Texas State Veterans’ Cemetery in Abilene. A Memorial Service will be 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Abilene Funeral Home with Butch Pesch officiating. Visitation will follow. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory and Abilene Funeral Home are in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Arlena McCartney Stevens (Thomas) of Amory; one sister, Martha Blackerby of Dallas; one brother Jim McCartney of Austin; a granddaughter, LuAnn Stevens Green; and a great granddaughter, Ryleigh Ann Green.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rheba McCartney; 3 sisters, Lois Brooker, Lillian Eubanks, and Vivian Foster; and one brother, Vernon McCartney.
