Bethlehem Community - Cpl. Curtis “Curt” Barskdale, U.S. Army, 70, passed away on January 26, 2017 at his residence. Born in Red Bay, Alabama, he was a son of the late Riley O’Neal and Ida Barksdale.
He married the love of his life, Sherry Gillespie Barksdale, on June 24, 1967, who survives him. Curt obtained an Architectural and Engineering Degree from Itawamba Community College. He proudly served our Country as a Vietnam Veteran in the 9th Infantry. After his service, Curt was employed as a contractor for Eutaw Construction Company, Jesco Construction Company and R&D Maintenance Company.
Curt was of the Baptist faith. Cooking was one of his greatest passions. He especially loved to cook chicken stew, where the secret ingredient was love, which was all in the stirring of the stew. He also enjoyed fish fry’s. Curt’s other passion was music; he loved playing various instruments and singing.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry G. Barksdale, Greenwood Springs; a son, Charlie Barksdale (Debbie), Greenwood Springs; sister, Marie Cole, Red Bay, AL; brothers, Dave Barksdale (Mary) and Bob Barksdale (Gale), both of Red Bay; Joel Barksdale and Leburn Barksdale, both of Russellville, AL; 4 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Paul Gillespie (Debbie), Amory, Mike Gillespie (Joan), Independence, Iowa; sisters- in- law, Kathy Birchfield (Don), Tupelo; Reeci Armstrong (David), Amory; Lynn Shields (Danny), Becker; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 2 PM, Sunday, January 29 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. Ronald Earl Humbers and Bro. David Humbers officiating. Burial will follow in Riggan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 -8 PM, Saturday, at the funeral home.
