Connetta Helms Lane
Aberdeen – Connetta Helms Lane, 80, met her Savior face to face on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 and she became totally healed. She was born on June 25, 1944, in Columbus, MS to the late James Thomas Helms and Alice Johnsey Helms.
Connetta grew up in Lowndes County, MS and obtained a Masters Degree in Nursing at The W in Columbus. She worked many years as a nurse at the State Hospital in Jackson, MS where she lived out her passion of serving and taking care of others. Later in life, she changes positions and worked for a while as a nurse at West Point Hospital as well as at a doctor’s office. She also worked at Gilmore Hospital in Amory, MS. Connetta had a very good heart and was a good nurse.
Her family meant a lot to her as well as her church family at Meadowood Baptist Church in Amory, MS. She was a longtime member of Meadowood and enjoyed singing old gospel music, Christian music and just fellowshipping with her church family. Connettas’ cousin, “Sonny” and his wife Carole, were also real close and they made many memories together through the years. Often times, she would recount great memories just by starting off with a simple “Do you remember this?” In her free time, she also liked to create beautiful crafts and loved all animals with her huge heart.
Of all her accomplishments in life, her service and love given to her patients through her as a nurse was what she was most proud of in her life. One tidbit she was also proud of was that her mother’s side of the family, the Johnsey’s, were related to Elvis Presley.
There is no doubt that she is in the presence of her loving God and that he was well pleased with her servant heart and love she gave to others. She will be missed by those that love her.
Left behind to treasure the memories are her first cousin, Raymond Thomas “Sonny” Johnsey (Carole), Mountainview, Arkansas; many friends at Meadowood Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alice Helms.
A Graveside Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday at 2pm at Haughton Memorial Park in Amory, MS with Dr. Lloyd Sweatt officiating.
