Clorene Palmer Davis

Amory—Clorene “Chloe” Lavelle Palmer Davis, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 21, 2018, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on June 27, 1926, in the Bethlehem Community, she was a daughter of James Paul and Dessie Lee Mayo Palmer.

Clorene attended Smithville School as a child. When she was a teenager, she joined Women’s Army Core (WAC) for a brief period of time. Clorene was always a hard worker, and during her life she held many jobs. She worked as a floor inspector for Amory Garment and also at a retail bread store, Interstate Brands. Clorene worked at Knight’s Drive-in, where her main job was to fix the famous steak sandwiches. She also worked for some time at Western Sizzlin’ and enjoyed playing Bingo with the senior citizens. In 1975, she married Hershel Davis. Together they enjoyed spending weekends with their motorcycle club. Clorene was a very outgoing lady and enjoyed being with people.

Clorene was known for her good heart and charitable nature. She loved her family more than anything, and raised them to know her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She enjoyed spoiling her grandkids and great-grandchildren with surprise gifts and traveling with her family. Many fond memories were made during her family’s trips to places such as Canada, the Bahamas, and Colorado. Clorene was always ready to take a trip or a cruise with her loved ones. Along with her family, Clorene’s faith guided her life. She was a faithful member of Hatley Primitive Baptist Church.

In her free time, Clorene enjoyed all-day singings. Her favorite genre of music was plain old, down-home Country music. She also loved Old Time Gospel quartets and anything with Elvis Presley. Her hobbies included knitting blankets for people around town and working on crossword puzzles. Clorene liked to work on search-and-find word puzzles as well. She was also an avid doll (and shoes) collector. She left behind a legacy of love and wonderful memories.

Clorene is survived by her daughter, Linda L. Prestridge (Newt), Amory; granddaughter, Linda Caye Durbin (Jeff), Amory; grandson, Jimmy Harold Eastman II, NC; great-grandchildren, Mandi, Stacy, Ree, Matt, Brad, Corey, Justin, Trey, and Amandalyn; step-grandchildren, Sam Prestridge, Athens, GA, and Vanessa G. Graf, Colorado Springs, CO; step-great-grandchildren, Luke, Sarah, Nathan, Isabelle, and Tatum; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 4 brothers; and grandchildren, Brunda M. Hunsucker & James Thomas Eastman.
