Cleo “Lavelle” Collums

Amory – Cleo “Lavelle” Collums, 92, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at Oak Tree Manor in Amory, MS. She was born on November 12, 1929, in Hatley, MS, to the late Lonnie Clarence Moore and Cleo Patrey Phillips Moore.

Lavelle grew up in Monroe County and graduated from Becker High School. She married the love of her life, Carnice Duane Collums, on November 10, 1951 and they were blessed with two children. Lavelle was a hard worker and she was employed for a long time as a Seamstress at Amory Garment for many years. She was always willing to work, to put others first, and help financially support her family. A sweet natured woman, she was a great mom, grandmother, and wonderful example of a fine Christian woman. Lavelle loved the Lord, was a member of Becker Baptist Church and she enjoyed old timey gospel music. Some of her most favorite past times were spending time at church and fellowshipping with her extended family, her fellow church members.

Although she was petite in stature, Lavelle had a larger than life personality. She was blessed with many friends through the years, including Agnes Shields, Jean Tubbs, and Betty Armstrong. They traveled often, going shopping, to gospel singings, and just eating out. Lavelle could bake wonderful cakes, which her family and friends loved to sample. She enjoyed her precious time with her grandson Jason and they shared many great times together through the years. She liked to collect bells of different types and cross stitching was one of her favorite hobbies.

There is no doubt that there was a great reunion in Heaven for Lavelle and her family. She loved her family and was proud of all that they had become in life. They will miss her dearly.

Lavelle is survived by her daughter, Wanda Gail Collums Young (James), Amory; grandson, Jason Duane Young, Amory.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carnice Duane Collums; son, Rickey Duane Collums; her grandchildren, Michael Keith Young, Laurie Michelle Young, and David Allen Young; brother, Donnie Ray Moore.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 10:30 am, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. David Jay and Bro. Jason Greene officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday from 9:30 am until the service hour at the funeral home.
