Amory – Clayton Robert Summers, 51 died on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center in Amory. Born February 5, 1960 in Landstuhl-Psalz, Germany , he was the son of the late Homer and Edda Huber Summers.
Mr. Summers was a graduate of Cooperas Cove High School in Cooperas Cove, Texas and was a graduate of Baylor University where he received a scholarship to play football. In the Cotton Bowl against Notre Dame he sacked Joe Montana. He was a decorated veteran of the U. S. Navy where he served as an antisubmarine air controller. Clayton married Karline Quattlebaum on November 28, 2006, who survives. Mr. Summers was a Navy pilot from 1979 until 1983, a Deputy Sheriff for Harrison County from 1988 until 2001, a Patrolman for Copperas Cove Police Dept prior to 1987 and worked for Swift Trucking from June, 2001 until March, 2007 when he became disabled. He was a Church of Christ. Clayton was a family man who enjoyed country music and driving a truck. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and cooking.
He is survived by his wife Karline Summers of Amory; his daughter, Caitlin Summers of Gulfport; his son, Stephen Summers of Gulfport; his step-daughters, Khristin Edwards and Kesler Brown both of Amory; his step-son, Kip Martin of Memphis TN; grandchildren, Kilie, Karlie and Jace Edwards, Braden, Cale and Daylee Brown; nieces, Casey Ratcliff; special friend Jimmy and Terri Askew.
