Clarian Allison, 78, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March l8, 2019, after a stay of 17 years in Beverly and River Place Nursing Centers in Amory. She was born to Mabry Sr. and Eva Mae Murphree Allison in Wren on April 4, 1940. Clarian grew up in the Wren Community, and she attended Wren School and graduated from Amory High School in 1958. Clarian was a fifth generation member of the Wren Presbyterian Church.
Clarian was an outstanding basketball player, and she was a member of the Varsity basketball team at Wren High School during grades 8-11. Before her senior year in 1957-58, Wren was consolidated with Amory High School. During her senior year at Amory High School, she was a member of the Lady Panthers basketball team who were the All Little Ten Champions. The Lady Panthers team was runner-up in State competition. She was named to the All Little Ten team and All State team. She was drafted by the All American Red Heads to play professional basketball, but she would not accept the offer because she would have to dye her hair red.
After attending college at MSCW for one year, Clarian transferred to MS State University and received her BS degree in Business Education in 1962. Her first teaching position as a business education teacher was at McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia. After several years teaching at the high school level, she became a business teacher at Chattahoochee Technical College in Marietta, Georgia. During the 1980s through her retirement in early 1990s, she became president of the Chattahoochee Technical College in Marietta. Some of the many honors that she received during her professional education career were: two terms (l983-85 and l986-88) as Commissioner of the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools of Georgia Commission on Occupational Educational Institutions and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools of Georgia in l986-89. She enjoyed her membership in the Tall Club in Atlanta, Georgia, for many years.
Her motto beside her high school picture was “Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.” This was basically the principle that guided her life. She loved people and enjoyed life to the fullest. She enjoyed all sports, but she was an avid golf enthusiast and attended the Masters for many years. She was an expert seamstress and enjoyed making matching outfits/clothes for Anna Claire and Bo during their younger years. She enjoyed entertaining her many friends in and around Atlanta, Georgia. Clarian will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Clarian is survived by her brother, Mabry Jr. (Dee) of Wren; the love of her life, her nephew, Dr. Mabry Franklin Allison and his wife, Stephanie of Ocean Springs and their children, Bo Franklin Allison of MS State University and Anna Claire Allison of Nashville, TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her grandparents, Ike and Annie Allison and Robert and Clara Murphree, all of Wren.
