Clara Mae King

Smithville – Clara Mae King, 87, died on Sunday, February 10, 2013, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center, Amory. Born on December 25, 1925, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late Arnie and Susie Stafford Knight.

Mrs. King attended Sipsey Fork School. On November 13, 1945, she married Chester Clay King. After fifty years as a seamstress, she retired from the garment industry. Mrs. King was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. A great cook who loved her family and was always cooking for them, she was very proud of her sons and grandchildren. In addition to taking care of her family, Mrs. King enjoyed Gospel music.

She is survived by her sons, Chester Wayne King (Linda Kay), Greenwood Springs, Charles Donald King (Linda Carol), Greenwood Springs, and Willie Washington “Bill” King, Smithville; grandchildren, Rhonda Johnson, Donna Parker, Joseph King, Candy Tacker, and Chelsy Hall; great-grandchildren, David Johnson, Mason Stevens, Marlie Stevens, Clay Tacker, and Miley Hall; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Alice Stafford, Shirley Wood, and Dottie Bennett; and brothers, E. T., Dudley, Dick, and R. L. Knight.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, February 13 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Tony Wood and Byron Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Young Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bubba Tacker, Mike Johnson, David Johnson, Melvin Parker, Dewey Lee Carruth and Joel Wood.

Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to Wesley Chapel Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 106, Detroit, AL 35552.
