Cason Community – Clara Mae Dykes, 90, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks, Verona. Born on March 7, 1925, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late Jeff and Mattie Williams Rea.
Mrs. Dykes attended Wren School. In 1945, she married Henderson D. Dykes. Mrs. Dykes retired as a seamstress with Amory Garment. A kind and loving lady, she was a member of Cason Baptist Church. With her life surrounded by her family, Mrs. Dykes loved her children and grandchildren; making homemade pickles; cooking and especially making cornbread; gardening; working in her flower bed; and Elvis Presley and Gospel music.
Survivors include her sons, Michael Dykes (Elizabeth), Amory, Tommy Dykes, (Sharon), Nettleton, David Dykes (Shelia) and James Dykes (Linda) of Amory; sisters, Christeen Carpenter and Ruth Farrar of Amory; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Jackie McCommon and Zara Dykes; granddaughter, Bridgett Dykes; sisters, Mattie Stewart and Dora Lee Conwill; and brothers, Buddy and Rubel Rea.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, March 9 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Sammy McMillen and Bro. Mike Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael and Matthew Dykes; Jason White; Levi, Dusty, and Justin Dykes; Zach Cresap. Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Reich and Colin Ponders.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Sunday and 1 PM until the service on Monday at the funeral home.
