Amory – Mrs. Christine Van Hoozer, 90, died on Friday, October 29, 2010, at Gilmore Memorial RMC. Born on August 10, 1920, in Big Creek, MS, she was a daughter of the late Hosea and Josephine Alexander Gulledge.
Mrs. Van Hoozer was a graduate of Big Creek High School, Memphis School of Commerce and attended Midsouth Bible College. A retired secretary, she taught Children’s Bible classes over 40 years and was active in Youth for Christ, Memphis Union Mission Auxiliary, Service Men’s Center and Child Evangelism Fellowship. While at Trace Road Baptist Church, Mrs. Van Hoozer started their Children’s Church ministry. A devout Christian, she was a member of East Amory Baptist Church where she was active in the Children’s Church ministry. In 1980, she moved to Amory with her husband following his retirement. A loving, giving and caring lady, she cherished her family, the opportunity to serve children, time with her dogs, Mollye and Chrissy, painting and gardening.
She is survived by her daughters, Jo Anne Arrant, Amory and Lisa Ham, Bartlett, TN; sons, Larry M. Van Hoozer, Amory and David (Carol) Van Hoozer, Germantown, TN; grandchildren, Eric (Kristen) Arrant, Kenner, LA, Missy Arrant, Amory, Jon (Donna) Van Hoozer, Memphis and Mike (Gina) Van Hoozer, Texas; great-grandchildren, Jon and Julia Van Hoozer, and five more; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, F. P. Van Hoozer in 1999; sisters, Lora G. Reeves and Clevie Terry; and brothers, Guy and Leroy Gulledge.
A Funeral service for Christine Van Hoozer will be held at 2 PM, Sunday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ray and Steven Warren, Larry Kuykendall, Terry Hall, Gary Johnson and Kenny Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be Children’s church members and former members.
Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM, Saturday at the funeral home.
At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Child Evangelism Fellowship, 3685 US Hwy. 278 E, Gadsden, AL 35903.
