Charles H. "Charlie" Young (1936 - 2010) Amory - Charles H. “Charlie” Young, 74, known by many as "Mr. Sunshine," graduated from this life to Eternal Life with his Lord, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 25, 2010.
Charlie was born in Richwood, WV, in 1936, to Clyde and Violet Young. He graduated from Richwood High School and served two years in the US Marine Corps.
Charlie worked 26 years for the Arundel Corporation. During that time he met and married the love of his life, Billie Adams in New Martinsville, WV. From there, they, along with their new daughter, Charity Lea, moved with Arundel Corporation to Mississippi to construct lock and dams for the Tenn-Tom Waterway. Upon completion of that project, they decided to make Amory their home.
In 1980, they opened and operated Sunshine Sports for 16 years, later turning it into Sunshine Outlet, Sunshine on Main and Charlie's Antiques.
Charlie was a Christian who loved the Lord and served Him at Faith Baptist Church and also in the public eye of the Amory community. He loved and adored his wife, children and grandchildren, enjoyed music, DIY projects, yard work, leading music and being an active member of his church.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Billie Adams Young, daughter, Charity Young (Steve) Gallop, all of Amory; son, Chuck (Emily) Young, Nashville, TN; sister Joan (Gerry) Smith, Delaware; and four grandchildren, Mackenzie Gallop, Madison Gallop, Shelby Young and Cameron Young. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother.
A “Graduation” service for Charlie Young will be held at 10 AM, Friday at the funeral home with Bro. Wade Cook and Dr. Jim Harrington officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bill McDaniel, Roger Carroll, Mike Carroll, Ed Hunter, Chuck Kennedy, Jimmy Downs, and Rodney Parish.
Visitation will from 5 – 8 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Baptist Church, Amory 38821-0202, Gideons International, Amory, MS 38821-0661, Sav-A-Life of Amory 38821-0544, or First Friends of Amory, 38821-0540.
