Charles Earl Stephens

Amory - Charles Earl “Steve” Stephens, 83, died Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the Community Hospice, Darlington Oaks in Verona. Born on November 21, 1928 in Lordsburg, NM, he was the son of Hardy and Flora Bess Barton Stephens.

A 28 year veteran of the U.S. Navy, two years was spent on a destroyer during the Korean War and he served 26 years as a Seabee. He was stationed with his family at several bases, mostly overseas, including one year in Viet Nam. He was a member of the Amory Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rites in Houston, TX, and a he was a member of the Amory Church of Christ. He enjoyed railroad history.

Graveside services with full military honors will be 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Corinth National Cemetery. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Alberta Stephens of Amory; one daughter, Tammy Butler (David) of Rapid City, SD; two sons, Michael Stephens of San Antonio, TX and Scott Stephens (Sandra) of Amory; 5 grandchildren, Misty Butler of Juneau, AK, Amber Renese Butler Rivera (Phillip) of Dallas, TX, Jonathan Stephens and fiancé Katie Taylor of Tupelo, Dayton Butler of Rapid City, SD, and Kristen Stephens of Amory; and a great grandson, Coble Stephens.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
