Carolina Community – Charles Ray Howard, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 13, 2014, at North MS Medical Center, Tupelo. Born on December 30, 1936, in Lamar County, AL, he was a son of the late John T. and Bessie Griffin Howard.
Ray attended Kennedy High School. On March 22, 1960, he married Dovie Katheryne Brown. He was employed by True Temper Sports for 25 years. Ray was a faithful Christian and prayer warrior, as well as, a member and Deacon of Pine Grove Baptist Church. He was also active in Men’s Brotherhood. Ray was very loving, kind, happy, and had a contagious laugh and enjoyed being with family most of all. His hobbies included rabbit hunting, helping others, building birdhouses to give as gifts to others, and Gospel music.
Ray is survived by his wife of 54 years, Katheryne , daughter, Rose Todd, and granddaughter, Shannon Haleigh Todd, all of Carolina Community; sisters, Murel Jean McCool, Reform, AL, and Geraldine Thrasher (Jimmy), Northport, AL; brothers, James Leon Howard (Pauline), Sulligent, AL, and Retired Colonel, H. Linden Howard (Jo), Oxford, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bulford Edward Howard.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, June 16 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Todd and Bro. Mike Hunter officiating. Burial will follow in Conwill-Goodwin Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Grimes, Andrew Brown, Matthew Brown, John Marshall Brown, Tommy Todd, and Kyle Motes. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael David Bishop, Logan Bishop, Noah Bishop, and Mickey Hood.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8PM, Sunday at the E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.
Memorials may be given to a charity of choice.
