Charles "Charlie" Franklin Scott

Smithville- Charles "Charlie" Franklin. Scott, 91, passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at Oak Tree Manor. Born on June 17, 1924, in Augusta, Kansas, he was a son of the late Johnny Scott and Carl and Ethel Dorothea Barton McMillin.

A 20-year veteran, Charles retired in 1965, as a Staff Sergeant from the US Air Force after 17 years of service. He served in five major battles and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Award. Prior to his career in the US Air Force, he honorably served in the US Army for three years in Germany during World War II . A few months after receiving his honorable discharge, he wanted to reenlist with the Army and return to Germany. When told they wouldn't send him to Germany, the US Air Force recruiter called him over and said, "We will gladly send you to Germany." After he retired from the US Air Force, Charles worked for the Florida Sanitarium, Bishop Baking Co., and McKee Foods Corp. Charles married Joyce Bunch Johnson on August 21, 1994. He was a member of McDonald Road Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include his wife and best friend, Joy B. Scott, Smithville; children, Linda Dougherty, Kansas City, MO, Thekla Burchard, Würzburg, Germany, Cynthia Cannon, Apison, TN, Carol Marie Hanna, Murrieta, CA; step-children, Michael Johnson, Greenwood Springs, Nancy Eastman, Aberdeen, and Steve Johnson, Smithville; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel Soetaert, Independence, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mona Scott;, daughter, Kathleen Ann Scott; and siblings, Stella Scott, Eugene Scott, Minnie Scott and Claud McMillin.

His Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM, Sunday, October 18, 2015 at McDonald Road Seventh-day Adventist Church, 5440 McDonald Rd, Chattanooga, TN 37353, (423) 396-3462, with Pastor Fred Fuller officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Chattanooga.

Visitation will be from 4 - 7 PM, Saturday, October 17 at Chattanooga Funeral Home, Valley View Chapel, 7414 Old Lee Highway, Chattanooga, TN 37421, 423-698-2541.
