Charles Eugene Blankenship
Amory – Charles Blankenship, 86, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016, at his residence. Born on December 2, 1930, in Sardis, TN, he was a son of the late James Thomas and Beulah Leslie Phillips Blankenship.
Charles was a graduate of Chester County High School, Henderson, TN. He honorably served in the US Army during the Korean War. On December 24, 1967, he married Reba Christine Armstrong Glenn. Charles was an insurance agent for National Life Insurance Company and he sold insurance to the public for twenty years. He also was the owner, with his wife, of Hob Nob Shoe Store, for 15 years, and he was an excellent shoe repairman. His focus in life was on God and his family. Charles was an active member of the St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, having served as a Sunday school teacher and on the Administrative Board. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends.
Passionate about giving back, Charles was a Mason, a Shriner, a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Lion’s Club. As a Shriner, he was very active with children and made many trips to the Burn Center. Always staying busy, Charles, also known as “Mr. Fix-It,” loved working on his many projects. Fun-loving and having a great sense of humor, he enjoyed gardening, golfing and listening to Gospel music.
He is survived by his daughter, Ronda Daon Blankenship Taylor, Oxford; step-son, Jimmy Glenn (Theresa), Amory; grandchildren, Laken Lane Taylor and June Nichole Taylor, Oxford; Todd Glenn, Corey Glenn, Jimmy Ann Ray and Allen Glenn, Amory; great-grandchildren, Neely Grace, Jackson and Henley Shaw Taylor; Gregory and Mason Glenn; Ryan Ray; Aubrey Glenn; Riley Ray; Bryce, Anna Kate and Drew Glenn; niece and nephew, Carol Kelley; Mark Blankenship.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Reba Blankenship; his first wife, June Evelyn Roberson; and brother, James Thomas Blankenship.
His Funeral Service will be at 2PM, Wednesday, December 28 at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Amory, with Rev. Brian Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Todd, Corey and Allen Glenn; Chad Ray; Chris and Steve Cummings; Shaun Kelley. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Powell, James Burrow, Freddie Lindley, Charles Harris, and Curtis Lewellen.
Visitation will be from Noon – 1:45 PM, Wednesday, at the church.
