Smithville - Celia Fay Dabbs Jackson, 92, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011, as a result of the tornado in Smithville. She was born on August 11, 1918 in Hatley, to the late Lemuel and Mary Fuqua Dabbs.
At age 15, she married Vardie Jackson on February 3, 1934. They were married for 54 years until he passed away in 1988. She was a resident of Smithville since 1934. Her greatest joy in life was working in her flowers. She also found pleasure in spending time with her dogs and cats, as well as growing vegetables in her garden. She was an extremely hard-working woman throughout her entire life. She worked at garment plants in Amory and Smithville, along with farming for many years.
She is survived by two daughters; Helen Patterson (Joe) of Canton, GA and Linda Cox (Doug-deceased) of Northport, AL. Six grandchildren- Barry Smith (Jill), Cindy Shafer (David), Deanna Smith (Orvis), Doug Cox, Robin Silva (John), and Daniel Cox. Ten great-grandchildren- Davey, Carly, Leah, Dillon, Alyssa, Ansley, Avery, Beau, Forest, and Taylor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vardie Jackson; five sisters- Minnie Lee Jones, Winona Hill, Emma Palmer, Annabell Evans, Loucille Welch, and twin sister Julia Ray Bowen; four brothers- Austin Dabbs, Houston Dabbs, Burley Dabbs, and Moses Dabbs.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 PM, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Brother Lloyd Minor officiating. Burial will be in Haughton Memorial Garden. Pallbearers will be Barry Smith, David Shafer, John Silva, Doug Cox, Daniel Cox, and Orvis Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Beau and Forest Smith.
Visitation will be Monday, May 2, 2011 from 1 p.m. until the service hour at the Funeral Home. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Memorials may be made to the church of your choice in Smithville.
