Cedella C. Lindsey

Smithville – Cedella Cleveland Lindsey, 87, died on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at Dogwood Plantation, Fulton, where she had been a resident for 5 years. Born on November 10, 1924, in Itawamba County, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Birdie Rouse Cleveland.

Mrs. Lindsey attended Ryan’s Well Elementary School and Itawamba Agricultural High School. On June 13, 1942, she married Cecil Lindsey. She was a true Proverbs 31 woman whose “children rise up to call her blessed,” and “trained up her children in the way that they should go.” A strong Christian woman, Mrs. Lindsey was an active member of Smithville Baptist Church, where she had many dear friends in her Sunday school class, WMU, and Senior Citizens group. After 38 years of service, she retired as a supervisor from Monroe Trouser. Prior to moving to Dogwood, Mrs. Lindsey was a long-time resident of Smithville. Upon learning that her home was destroyed in the April 27, 2011, Smithville tornado, her faith came to the forefront when she said, “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.” Mrs. Lindsey never hesitated to share her faith with others. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and they lovingly called her “Ma.” She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Lindsey enjoyed piecing quilt tops and making quilts for her family members. In most recent years, she enjoyed playing bingo with her good friends at Dogwood, working jigsaw puzzles, and watching Gospel Chanel 39 on television.

She is survived by her son, Lynn Lindsey (Vickie), Brewer; daughters, Leatrice Thorn (Wayne), Peaceful Valley, and Jeanette Touchton, Clinton; grandchildren, Emily McKnight (John), Steve Prestridge, Jamie Lindsey (Susanne), Jad Touchton, and Eric Thorn (Kim); great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Kamri, Lindsey, and Josh McKnight; and Shelby and Jacob Lindsey; sister, Geneva Thomas, Golden; brother, Harold Cleveland, Golden; and numerous nieces and nephews who held a very special place in her heart along with numerous special friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Lindsey, in 1987; sisters, Biddie Griffin, Forrest Miller, Vader Newborn, and Dera Tallant; and brothers, Nathan, Gailure, and Haron Cleveland.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, September 17 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Wes White officiating. Burial will follow in Young Memorial Garden, Smithville. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Steve Prestridge, Jamie Lindsey, Jad Touchton, Eric Thorn, and John McKnight; and nephew, Bobby Cleveland.

Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Sunday at the funeral home and will continue until 10:45 AM on Monday.

Memorials may be given to Diabetes Foundation of MS, 800 Avery Blvd., Ste. 100, Ridgeland, MS 39157, Smithville Baptist Church, PO Box 52, Smithville, MS 38870, or to a charity of choice.
