Cathy Oakes Brock
Catherine (Cathy) Dear Oakes Brock, died unexpectedly on November 21, 2022, just shy of her 72nd birthday. Cathy was born in Meridian, Mississippi, on November 27, 1950, to Peggy Dear Oakes and William T. Oakes, M.D., both of whom predeceased her. She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, David R. Brock, and his children, Ty Brock and Amy Brock Redoble (Abe Junior) and their children, Abigail and Anilese. She is also survived and celebrated by her siblings, Elizabeth Oakes, W. Thomas (Tommy) Oakes, M.D., and Cynthia (Cindy) Oakes Hester (Dan), and her nieces, Ashley Oakes and Anna Hester, and nephews, Wil Oakes and Nathan Oakes (Meg). Also missing Cathy will be her much-loved cat, Kee-Kee.
Cathy graduated from Amory High School in 1968 and attended the University of Mississippi (and was forever an enthusiastic fan). She graduated Summa Cum Laude in microbiology from Mississippi University for Women in 1972, at which time she began her lifelong career as a Medical Technologist. In that capacity she worked at several hospitals in New Orleans, with a brief stint in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and she ended her career working at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory, Mississippi, finally fully retiring at age seventy.
For all of her hard work, Cathy never failed to find time to enjoy life to the fullest. She loved to go out dancing, and David was her willing and able partner. She and David also enjoyed attending motorcycle rallies, traveling mainly across the South, in their RV.
On the home front, she was a wonderful cook and a fabulous baker, generously treating family and friends to delicious dinners, Christmas cookies, excellent Egg Nog, birthday cakes, and other delights.
Cathy always liked to dress with flare, bringing sparkle to many occasions. We will all miss her joyous spirit.
Plans for a celebration of her life are pending. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the charity of your choice.
