– Carroll Shields, 78, died on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at his residence. Born on October 28, 1933, in Amory, he was a son of the late Jim and Maude Meek Shields.Mr. Shields was a graduate of Becker High School, Class of 1952. On September 13, 1952, he married his high school sweetheart, Eloise Pace. He honorably served in the US Army and the Army National Guard. After working for twenty years as a salesman with Amory Wholesale Grocery, Mr. Shields opened and operated Shields Grocery for 26 years. He loved going to the Farmers Market in Tupelo to sell tomatoes and okra and especially looked forward to visiting with everyone at the market. He attended Becker Baptist Church. A wonderful husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Shields loved spending time with his family and enjoyed cooking Sunday lunch every week for 34 years for all his family. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking, yard work, picking and shelling peas, and showing off his stringer of crappie.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, March 22 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Spencer and Bro. Robert Moore officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Greenbriar Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Billy Kirkpatrick, Carl Brangenburg, Dillard Pruitt, Jerry Weathers, Lyle Harris, Jimmy Sanders, and Lee Boozer.Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Eloise P. Shields, Becker; sons, Keith Shields (Debbie), and Jeff Shields (Margaret) of Becker; grandchildren, Kaleena Richardson (Antwann), Dustin Shields (Mary), Lesley Shields, Holli Helton (Joey), and Jared Shields; great-grandsons, Easton Shields, Jace Richardson, and Mason Helton; and nephew, Jimmy Sanders.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Barnett.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, c/o Beth May, PO Box 269, Amory, MS 38821.Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at eepicklefuneralhome.com.
