Born on April 10, 1929, in Amory, he was a son of the late Leonard and Madie Moore Harmon.Mr. Harmon attended Becker School and graduated from Shannon High School. He honorably served in the US Army during the Korean War. On September 24, 1954, he married Betty Jean Baker. A hard worker, Mr. Harmon worked at Pullman Couch for seventeen years before becoming self-employed as a farmer and a carpenter. He attended Hatley Missionary Baptist Church. Outgoing, Mr. Harmon was a great husband and provider for his family. He enjoyed being outside working, listening to his grandchildren sing, Gospel and Country music, and watching boxing on television.He is survived by his dedicated wife of 57 years, Betty Harmon, Amory; daughter, Melissa Ann Harmon Aldridge (Richard), Amory; son, Randy Carrol Harmon (Cindy), Amory; grandchildren, Caitlin Aldridge, Collin Aldridge, Trent Harmon, and Randi Kathryn Harmon; 2 nieces and 4 nephews; and special friend, Theron Ponder.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Gwen Hilliard, Nell Booker, and Helen Cantrell; and brothers, Charles and Billy Ray Harmon.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 PM, Sunday, December 4, 2011, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Sidney McLeod and Bro. Arlis Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Dudley Cantrell, Collin Aldridge, Trent Harmon, Tommy Harmon, Mickey Cantrell, Hank Cantrell, Larry Hamilton, and Dudley Pearce. Honorary pallbearers will be Theron Ponder, Lawrence Walden, and Leonard Jones.Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Saturday at the funeral home.Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at eepicklefuneralhome.com.
