Amory- Carolyn Marie Logan Austin, 67, died Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Amory. Born August 12, 1945 in Sumner, MS, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Logan, Sr. and Corrine Russell Logan.
Growing up in Tutwiler, Ms. Austin attended Nursing School in Bryan, TX and worked as an RN in the Marks and Clarksdale area for many years. Strong in her faith and loving the Lord, she was a devout Catholic, and loved the congregation of St. Helen’s Catholic Church. Always having a positive attitude, her children always knew that they were the light of her life. She enjoyed gospel music, drinking coffee and reading, and doing extensive research on the famed Kennedy family.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Jo Thomas (Jerry), Tupelo, Mary Louise Chamoun, Southaven and Drayanna Maxcy, Amory; son, Eddie Sanders (Debbie), Amory; sister, Margie Adams (John), Oakland; brother, Thomas Logan, Sr. (Myrtis), Oakland; grandchildren, Michelle, James, and Steven Thomas, Mary Lynn Maxcy, Andy and Kayla Prestridge; great granddaughter, Emily DeVaughn; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 2 sons, Billy Perry and Jimmy Sanders, niece, Renee Logan.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, June 22, 2013 at St. Helens Catholic Church with Rev. Antony Chakkalakkal officiating. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 PM in Woodlawn Cemetery, in Sumner, MS. Pallbearers will be James Allen Thomas, Steven Thomas, Andy Prestridge, Michael Barnett, Trea Logan, and Jerry Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Guy Mitchell, Michael Cox, and the staff of Golden Living Center and Legacy Hospice.
