Burma Parham Peeler

Amory – Burma Parham Peeler, 93, died on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on November 14, 1918, in Amory, she was a daughter of the late Aud Carson and Lola Hester Parham.

Playing basketball and a member of the County Champions team, Mrs. Peeler was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1935. Retiring in 1980, she was the office manager for Guardian Life Insurance Company in Memphis. A woman of deep faith, Mrs. Peeler was a member of First United Methodist Church where she had served on several church boards. A beautiful, caring, and loving lady, her life was guided by her faith and family. An author, Mrs. Peeler wrote poems that printed in the American Poetry Anthology and constructed crossword puzzles that were published. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Peeler was passionate about helping other people and enjoyed doing embroidery work.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 AM, Monday, June 18 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Prentiss Gordon, Jr., and Rev. Warren Coile officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ashley Slaughter, Johnny Frank Turman, Frank Peeler, Mario Jones, Billy Kirkpatrick, and Bruce Parham. Honorary pallbearers will be Herman Hester, Matt Mann, John and Jeff Young, Chris Smaglick, and Ryan French.

Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM, Sunday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home.

She is survived by her daughters, Geri Mann, Smyrna, TN, and Jean Young (Lawrence), Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Matthew Mann, Smyrna, TN, Jeff Young, Palm Beach, FL, and John Young, Dallas, TX; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Slaughter and Mason Young; great-great-grandson, Jackson Slaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Peeler; son-in-law, Ed Mann; granddaughter, Audrey Mann; and a brother, Aud Parham.

Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 147, Amory, MS 38821.
