Bethlehem Community - William Burdine Jones, 66, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at his residence. Born on August 8, 1949, in Monroe County, he was a son of the late William Burnie and Marcell West Jones.

Burdine attended Smithville High School as a youth. On March 1, 1976, he married the love of his life, Barbara West Jones. Together they were blessed with three children. A man who had a great work ethic, Burdine provided for his family by working as a pulp wood logger and timber cutter. Burdine was of the Baptist Faith and he was passionate about children and St. Jude. He had a huge heart and in various ways he would help take care of people in the community. He loved spending precious time with his children and grandchildren. Burdine enjoyed listening to Country music and working in the garden. A true outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, especially deer hunting. People marveled at his skill in carpentry work and any other work he did with his talented hands. A selfless man, he raised chickens so that he could give eggs away to families in need. Burdine will truly be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. His caring spirit will live on in their hearts.

Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara; daughter, April Dawn Young, Bethlehem; sons, William Matthew Jones (Crystal) and Jonathan Daniel Jones (Mandie), all of Bethlehem; sister, Marline Hester, Bethlehem, Teresa Smith (Randy), Bethlehem; grandchildren, Lindsey Young, Tanner Young, Dalton Jones, Melody Roberts, Race Roberts, Evey Roberts, Lily Jones, Jackson Jones, and Case Jones; great-grandchild, Easton Smith; his best friend, his dog, “Duke”; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Marlin Harris and Wilburn Hathcock.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephews, Spencer Hester and Taylor Smith.

His Graveside Service will be held at 2 PM, Friday, May 20, 2016, in Bethlehem Cemetery with Bro. Robert E. Fowlkes officiating. Pallbearers will be Matt Jones, Jonathan Jones, Randy Smith, Marlin Harris, Shane Murray, and Tanner Young. Honorary pallbearers will be Wilburn Hathcock, Ellis Ray Harris and Rick Kimble.

Visitation will be from 11:30 AM - 1:30PM, Friday, May 20, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.


His family requests memorials are given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105.
